This Okinawan restaurant was on my list of places to try & was glad when my visiting aunty & her friend wanted to try this place.
Their okinawan food was spot on, with their prices pretty reasonable. I had their combo Shoyu Pork & Okinawan Soba which was delish!
Parking is a challenge as they only have a couple of spots, but I found street parking around the corner near Rainbows Drive-In.
We even got a special treat with the owner playing a couple of Okinawan songs. I think because most of the restaurant that night was taken up by a company party (they allowed us in to take the only table left), he put on a mini Okinawan show. It was a fun night! -

Came in with a group of 20. Made a reservation in advance and asked if I could put a custom menu together to do family style dining. Ended up with a great menu variety and food turned out amazing.
Before the end of the night, the owner played us live music on his sanshin. We joined in, danced and played the paranku. Overall, a great experience! -

I love this "literally" hole in the wall!
I cant believe i didn't have a review here but i usually come here for lunch (only open on Mon, Wed and friday) and never have the time to sit an enjoy my meal since i am running during the day! But enough said about me, here the reviews:
-Ambience: nothing fancy and its tiny inside but if the food is good who cares.
-Service: aunty is always nice and friendly. 10 points!
-Parking: only 3 stalls in the front.
-Food:
The MUST get here is their oxtail soup! Its delicious!
I also always try another item in their menu and this time was their special : "Pork Tonkatsu"
It was good but definitely their oxtail is the star here!

Same location for about 20 years. Haven't been here for long time. Still same. Small place, about 5 tables. 5 chairs at sushi bar.
Family run. Homey kind of food.
2 parking stalls in front. Otherwise street parking.
Note: oxtail soup not available every day.
Call first.
3 in our party. Went at 530pm dinner.
Ordered pork bittermelon, includes rice, tossed salad and miso soup. $9.95
Also, sushi/soup combo $15+
Choice of soup (kinda small bowl)
Spare rib, pigs feet, miso, oxtail soups, etc
Sushi was 6 nigiri + 4 cucumber/imitation crab.
Good and fresh.
Too bad the bowl of soup wasn't a little bigger.
Server Tats very nice and personable.
Heard they have entertainment on Saturday nights.
Restroom inside restaurant.
Friendly staff. -

Sunrise restaurant is an absolute hidden gem. I'm so thankful to Yelp for helping me find this place. We were in the Kapahulu area and we were trying to find something tasty to eat. I came across Sunrise Restaurant and they have such great reviews that we had to try it out.
Sunrise Restaurant offers authentic Okinawan dishes. I've never really had Okinawan food before except for at the Okinawan festival. I didn't really care for the food at the festival and I thought that's how it really tasted. So I really never ventured out to a Okinawan restaurant and tried it again.
Well, let me tell you, their food is simply delicious. It tastes nothing like the festival. It gave me a better perspective of what Okinawan food should really taste like.
They offer traditional Okinawan dishes like the pork bittermelon, Okinawan soba, and pork tofu. They also have combinations with sushi.
I got the Okinawan soba and sushi combo. My husband got the pork with bittermelon and then he ordered the Okinawan soba. My daughter had the Okinawan soba.
The noodles in the soba were cooked perfectly. And the broth was so tasty, I just kept wanting to slurp it up all the way until the end. My husband really enjoyed his bittermelon.
Even after we left the place, we kept talking about how good the food was.
The only downfall I would say about this place is the parking. We got there when they opened at 5:30 so we got a space. But there are only two parking spaces. People double park behind you but it's a small restaurant and they just call out to move your car. It's kind of like when you go to a family party and you have to tell your relatives to move their car so you can go out.
Overall great food and great atmosphere. My family will definitely be back again.
